Do Not Take A Polygraph
Polygraph results are not admissible in court because they are
not reliable. Further, in our experience, a person can undergo
two polygraphs with two different examiners, with the same
questions, and receive two different results.
Police choose to believe a suspect’s polygraph result if it
shows deception. However, if a suspect’s polygraph result
demonstrates a suspect is telling the truth, police choose not
to believe the polygraph result. In short, police opine if a
person fails they are guilty and if a person passes they are
guilty.
Interestingly, the police polygraph most always finds the
suspect to be deceptive. In reality, the police do no care about
the polygraph results. The polygraph is simply a psychological
ploy used in the interrogation process. Even if the suspect
passes the police polygraph, the police typically lie telling
the suspect he or she failed to “break” the suspect. The goal is
to cause the suspect to become emotional and talk.
Do not take a polygraph.
